On June 1st, I learned I had a malignant brain tumor—and it turned out to be the luckiest day of my life.
A TTC driver noticed I looked unwell, called an ambulance, and got me to St. Michael’s Hospital, where Dr. Michael Cusimano and an incredible team saved my life. I felt truly safe and supported every step of the way.I am endlessly grateful and will be a St. Michael’s advocate for life.
To everyone participating in St. Michael’s Paddle Royale tournament, thank you for raising critical funds that give people like me a fighting chance.
Michele-Marie Beer, Grateful Patient
My name is Frances Greenidge, and my life changed drastically in 2009. First, I fell 40 feet during a hike, and just 18 months later, I was in a car accident caused by a distracted driver. I was left with a traumatic brain injury, a spinal cord injury, and years of chronic pain and isolation.
Recovery was tough, not just physically but emotionally. Trauma isn’t only about broken bones. It changes how you experience the world. Many doctors didn’t know how to help with the “invisible” injuries, leaving me feeling isolated.
Everything changed when I was introduced to St. Michael’s My BeST program—a community where trauma survivors share, heal and rebuild together. There, I found support, understanding, and a path forward. Thanks to St. Michael’s, I’ve not only survived, I’ve found a way to thrive. I’m deeply grateful for the second chance they gave me.

John Boag is an avid golfer. But when both of his legs had to be amputated within two years due to diabetes-related infections, he feared he would never golf again.
Thanks to the world-leading rehabilitative care available at Providence Healthcare, he didn’t have to worry. Just four days after being fitted for his second prosthetic leg at Providence, he was back on the golf course.
“My team knew I wanted to keep playing golf, so they designed my entire therapy program around golf,” says John. “Everything I was doing—stretching, twisting, balancing—was getting me ready to swing a golf club. I’m so grateful.”
